Our intensive summer programme for Young Learners is designed for children aged 10 to 13 while our Young Student programme is for those aged 14 to 17.

Prior to arrival, students take an Oxford Online Placement Test to establish their level of English. This allows us to place students in classes in advance, thereby allowing teachers to prepare more effectively as well as ensuring a smooth start to the academic programme, which takes place every morning, Monday to Friday.

Teachers follow a student-centred approach to teaching and learning English. Within the lessons all of the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) will be covered as well as the three language systems of vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar. The students will practise their communicative skills using a task-based language teaching methodology within a variety of contexts. Throughout the week, the students will also be prepared for the cultural programme’s off-campus excursions.

Homework is an important additional element allowing students to use the language they have worked with in class and for teachers to give constructive feedback. Students also keep a diary of their time in Scotland as a reminder of their stay.

All necessary materials are provided for use throughout the course and students will build up a portfolio of work in their folders to take away with them at the end of their course. All our classrooms have interactive whiteboards and there is free WiFi access throughout the campus.
