Academic Programme

Programme Overview

FCLC Edinburgh

FCLC’s academic programme is based on weekly themes. These themes come from famous books that have a Scottish connection. Students learn about the theme in class and also during trips and activities. Each school day has three lessons, all taught by the same teacher. Lessons include homework, language learning, fun activities, and materials about the excursions

Some lessons focus on grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. But the main goal at FCLC is to help students speak better and feel more confident using English. Teachers make their own lessons and show students the plan for the week every Monday. This helps students get ready and be more involved in their learning.

Oxford Online Placement Test

FCLC Edinburgh

Before coming to FCLC, students take an Oxford Online Placement Test. This helps us put them in the right class before they arrive. This way, they can start learning right away on Monday morning without stress. On the first day, teachers also speak with each student to check their level and make any changes if needed.

Classes are formed according to age and level,  and  while we offer courses from A1 to C1 level, we highly recommend a minimum level of A2.

Lessons

FCLC Edinburgh

The academic programme is divided into two groups: Young Learners (10–13 years old) and Young Students (14–17 years old). We offer lessons from A1 to C1 level. Because all parts of the programme are in English, we recommend students have at least A2 level.

Lessons are from Monday to Friday in the morning. Each day has three sessions, all with the same teacher. In total, there are 17.5 hours of lessons each week. Classes have a maximum of 14 students, but usually there are around 12.

Every Monday, teachers introduce a book, the writer, and the main ideas to their class. During the week, lessons are based on these ideas. These same themes are also part of the trips and activities. The PowerPoint presentations about the themes and trips are special to FCLC, and we enjoy sharing them with our students.

Class Excursions

FCLC Edinburgh

Besides morning lessons, teachers go on trips in Edinburgh with their students on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. These trips are prepared for in class. Between lessons and excursions, students spend 23.5 hours per week with their teacher.

One class each week may happen in the afternoon, so the class can take a morning trip.
